Whitetail Deer

Family-supported Michigan deer hunt reflecting ethical practices and shared outdoor values.

Food Focused • Ethical • Skill Building

There’s nothing quite like watching dawn break over the Michigan woods, knowing a whitetail (Odocoileus virginianus) could step out at any moment. Whitetails are the heartbeat of Michigan hunting, and for good reason, as they provide some of the best wild meat you can put on your family’s table. For many hunters, filling the freezer with clean, free range venison is the most meaningful part of the entire experience.

At Tip of the Spear Outdoors, we don’t chase trophies. We focus on ethical harvests, learning the land, improving woodsmanship, and helping you become a more confident, capable hunter. This is a food first, skill first approach that respects both the animal and the tradition.

We can’t guarantee a harvest, no honest guide can, but we can guarantee that your chances will be higher with a seasoned guide at your side. You’ll learn how to read sign, choose productive setups, understand deer movement, and make responsible shot decisions. These are skills you’ll carry with you long after the hunt is over.

If you’re ready for a meaningful hunt that builds your abilities and helps you put venison in the freezer, the Michigan whitetail is where it begins.

Wild Turkey

Ethical Michigan wild turkey harvest reflecting responsible hunting practices and mentorship.

Food Focused • Ethical • Skill Building

The woods feel different during turkey season. The air is cool, the light is soft, and somewhere in the distance a gobble rolls across the landscape. It’s subtle at first, then it hits again, louder, closer, waking the whole forest. Nothing gets your heart moving quite like a fired up spring tom answering your call.

Eastern wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris) are sharp eyed, unpredictable, and far more challenging than most people expect. That’s what makes them so rewarding. When a bird commits, strutting and drumming his way into your setup, you’re experiencing one of Michigan’s most intense and traditional hunts. And the payoff is worth it, clean, delicious meat that rivals anything in the woods.

At Tip of the Spear Outdoors, our focus is on patience, woodsmanship, and controlled calling, not aggressive tactics or risky setups. You’ll learn how to recognize productive ground, read fresh sign, set realistic decoys, and make simple, effective calls that won’t “educate” pressured birds. This hunt is about steady nerves, smart decisions, and respecting the animal.

We can’t promise a longbeard, no guide can, but we can promise you’ll hunt smarter, safer, and with far more confidence than before. Turkey hunting teaches lessons quickly, and each encounter builds skills you’ll carry into every other season.

If you want a hunt that’s high energy without being high pressure, and one that sharpens your abilities while putting incredible meat on the table, Michigan’s wild turkey is the perfect challenge.

Small game hunting is one of the most reliable, accessible, and rewarding ways to put wild meat in the freezer. With long seasons, generous opportunities, and low pressure hunts, it’s the perfect entry point for new hunters, and a great way for experienced hunters to stay sharp all year.

Whether you’re after squirrels, rabbits, or other small game, these species offer steady action and countless chances to learn. You’ll develop the same essential skills used in big game hunting, such as reading sign, moving through the woods quietly, making ethical shots, and understanding how animals use their habitat. The stakes are lower, the costs are lower, and the lessons are just as valuable.

Small game hunts are also one of the most cost effective guided options. Even with a guide at your side, it’s an affordable path to building confidence in the field while bringing home clean, delicious wild meat, often more reliably than big game seasons allow.

If you want a relaxed, educational hunt that strengthens your woodsmanship, fills your freezer, and helps you grow as a hunter, small game is the place to start.
